Buffalo River Canoe and Kayak
September 19, 2026
Meet at the Crazy Horse Recreation Park at 10 am. It’s about 1.5 hour drive from Huntsville.
The canoe/kayak trip takes about 5 hours to paddle the 10 miles of the gentle flowing river. It
has many beaches and attractions along the way including a cave, a civil war cemetery, and a 30 ft cliff for those adventurous enough to dive or jump from. The Columbia is a natural watershed river that is not fed by a dam like most of the others we’ve paddled. Depending on the weather, there is little white-water and you may have to navigate some shallows a time or two along the way. But the scenery is gorgeous. It is great for beginners and not at all boring for those that have done this a few times. It is an easy, beautiful river to keep you cool on a hot day. Bring a snack along for lunch. Plan on getting wet.
Afterwards we will caravan to The Alpine Restaurant at Natural Bridge Park, 299 Natural
Bridge Park Rd for dinner and then return home.
All HSC members and guests are welcome to come whether running the river or not. You will
be required to sign a liability waiver for the trip.
